Telespazio VEGA UK had an incredible three days at the UK Space Conference in Newport, Wales. Marco Folino our CEO was on the Telespazio stand welcoming guests and our team had a fantastic time sharing in a really positive atmosphere, demonstrating the company’s capabilities, learning from their peers and meeting many interesting people from both the UK, ESA and the global space industry.

Michael Lawrence, Head of Marketing and Sales, was one of the first speakers when the conference opened on Tuesday 24 September, he spoke about the use of Earth Observation data in innovative new services. He also took part in the Wednesday afternoon Plenary Panel session on ‘Growing our future sector’. He commented that space sector growth was driven by collaboration and depends on UK government support for initiatives such as the Satellite Applications Catapult Regional Centres that support local industry and universities to connect with new customers.

Telespazio VEGA UK had a strong presence at the event with further participation from the following:

  • Geraint Cooksley, Head of Geo Information, spoke about ‘Future commercialisation of space-based PNT systems’ considering applications such as autonomous vehicles & remote monitoring of critical infrastructure.
  • Fay Done, Earth Observation Engineer, presented a poster on ‘The launch of the SMOS Pi-MEP Salinity operational platform’.
  • Richard Lowe, Head of Innovation & Tech Governance, was on a panel discussing data quality through quality assurance of EO products and highlighted our industry leading capability in this domain.
  • Geoff Busswell, Head of SSO Marketing and Sales, also made a presentation on the Spotlight stage on ‘How Artificial Intelligence is ensuring the quality of our customers’ EO services’ to highlight our pioneering work on AI for data quality assurance.

The UK Space conference is an important event for the UK space sector and this year’s event really showed how the UK’s ambitious growth targets are becoming a reality. The UK continues to be an important player in the global space community and the Government recognises that the space sector is making a significant contribution to the UK economy.
