Telespazio UK announces the new EarthCODE Portal to advance FAIR and Open Earth System Science

08 January 2026

Telespazio UK, a subsidiary of Telespazio (a 67/33% joint venture between Leonardo and Thales), is pleased to announce the unveiling the new EarthCODE Portal.

EarthCODE (Earth Science Collaborative Open Development Environment) is a European Space Agency (ESA) project, envisioning leveraging technology to empower Fair and Open Earth System Science, fostering innovation and collaboration for a sustainable future.

The EarthCODE team is pleased to unveil the new EarthCODE Portal, a modern online hub designed to strengthen Europe’s capacity for transparent, collaborative and reproducible Earth System Science.

EarthCODE represents FAIR Science for Earth Action, and the portal will allow users to create, find and collaborate on Earth system science experiments, unlocking the full potential of Earth Observation for the benefit of society – from research to policy. The launch of the new portal marks a significant milestone in delivering a unified entry point to the tools, workflows, datasets and community resources that underpin this effort.

The portal at a glance

The new EarthCODE portal provides a clear, streamlined user experience, enabling scientists, developers and organisations to more easily explore and engage with EarthCODE’s expanding ecosystem. A simplified navigation structure guides users through key sections including:

  • Ecosystem – an overview of the interconnected components, highlighting the platforms that joined the initiative to support FAIR and open science
  • Resources – documentation, guides and learning materials
  • Community – collaboration opportunities, discussion forum, scientific communities we are working with and other engagement channels
  • News & Events – official announcements and updates on upcoming and past events and opportunities, and other related news.
  • About – background on EarthCODE’s mission, goals and development

Strengthening FAIR and Reproducible Workflows

At the core of the portal is EarthCODE’s mission to support reproducible science. EarthCODE consolidates guidance and tools that enable users to publish, document and share scientific assets developed on interoperable infrastructure and platforms from the Network of Resources (NoR) portfolio. This includes from datasets and code to processing workflows and full experiments.

The new portal highlights:

  • Curated examples of data products and workflows
  • Demonstrations of end-to-end, reproducible scientific experiments
  • Clear guidance for publishing results in a FAIR-compliant manner
  • Integration pathways for cloud-ready and standards-aligned services

These features are designed to help the scientific community adopt more interoperable and transparent research practices.

Supporting Growth and Future Expansion

The launch of the new portal represents the beginning of the next phase of EarthCODE’s development. As ESA expands its open-science capabilities, the portal will continue to grow with additional features, enhanced technical integration, and new opportunities for the scientific community to engage with the platform.

EarthCODE will remain a dynamic, evolving environment in line with ESA’s long-term strategy to promote FAIR, transparent and high-impact Earth System Science.
