EOEPCA+ 2.0 common architecture released

16 February 2026

The EOEPCA+ (EO Exploitation Platform Common Architecture) project, sponsored by the European Space Agency (ESA) and managed by Telespazio UK, part of Leonardo Space, is pleased to announce the stable release of EOEPCA+ 2.0, the latest version of the common architecture.

EOEPCA+ establishes best practices for Earth Observation (EO) exploitation platforms based on open standards and developing a reference implementation of building blocks as free open-source software.

Its mission is to unify the fragmented cloud ecosystem for Ground Segment, EO Science, R&D and Applications, with a vision to enhance interoperability between cloud-based data platforms for an open network of resources. It is achieving this through enabling federation amongst EO cloud platform options by offering reusable Building Blocks for tailored environments, for which developers have been selected through competitive tenders.

The release of EOEPCA+ 2.0 includes 11 stable building blocks:

  • Processing: OGC API Processes (Calrissian, Toil), openEO Geotrellis
  • Data: Data Access, Datacube Access, Data Gateway
  • Resources: Resource Discovery, Resource Registration
  • User Environment: App Hub, Workspace
  • Monitoring and Quality: Application Quality
  • Security: IAM

Each component comes with deployment scripts, documentation and interactive tutorials so you can try them hands-on:

EOEPCA+ continues toward 2.1 with the Operations BB, MLOps and openEO Argo.

Partners on this include Telespazio UK (project lead), Novaspace, CS Group (France), Development Seed, CGI (Italy), DLR, EOfarm, EOX, Eurac, Geolabs, MMS, Sensmetry, Space Applications Services, Terradue, Vito, Werum, and Y22 Labs.
