EarthCARE DISC at Living Planet Symposium 2025

Telespazio UK is excited to attend Living Planet Symposium (LPS25) to present our activities as part of the EarthCARE DISC.

The Data, Innovation and Science Cluster (DISC) for ESA’s Earth Cloud, Aerosol and Radiation Explorer (EarthCARE) mission is an international consortium of experts from 16 organisations based in nine countries and led by the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI).

Since the project kicked off in September 2024, it has been going from strength to strength under the guidance of Telespazio UK’s Kajal Haria in her role as Service Manager. Telespazio UK also leads Task 3: Instrument Calibration and Monitoring Facility (ICMF), Task 6a: Quality Control, Task 10: User Support and Task 12: Project Outreach and Communication.

We  will be presenting three posters at LPS25 to demonstrate our activities and achievements as part of the EarthCARE DISC. At poster session C.02.14 on Wednesday 25 June, you’ll find a poster entitled ‘What is the EarthCARE DISC?’ and another entitled 'The EarthCARE Instrument Calibration and Monitoring Facility’. These posters explain the role of the DISC more generally, and explore the ICMF, which is responsible for providing monitoring and offline calibration activities via numerous calibration processors, respectively.

On Thursday 26 June, at poster session C.06.08, is our final poster entitled ‘Ensuring Data Integrity: EarthCARE Quality Control within the DISC Framework’. Here we will present the latest results from the systematic quality control activities conducted by the DISC daily, as well as long-term analyses of the data.

Having recently passed one year in orbit, the EarthCARE mission has been a great success. We’d like to take this opportunity to thank our dedicated and hardworking colleagues who are ensuring that the EarthCARE mission, through the DISC, meets its objectives and its data are of the highest quality.
